Freight Car Labels – U1 Inspection Labels

NetzlofDesign and Model works is releasing Freight Car Labels – U1 Inspection Label Decals.
Set includes multiple U1 Inspection Labels including White, Faded Yellow and Bright Yellow.

The U-1 inspection block, relates to a defective batch of 33″ wheels from Southern Wheel Company in the 1970s. In 1978, a massive inspection program was completed where all freight cars with the 33″ wheel received these inspection dots. Those with defective wheels received a white dot on a black square requiring the wheelset to be replaced by end of year 1978. Once completed those freight cars received a yellow dot on a black square for label. New cars in 1978 also received that yellow dot label.

Starting in 1979, the requirement for that block was no longer needed and new cars after 1979 did not receive the label. It was quite common to see freight cars with original paint still showing this label, well into the 90s and longer.

Decal sets are print on demand, and the following scales are available to purchase from the Listings: G (1:29), G (1:32), O (1:48), S (1:64), HO (1:87), TT (1:120), N (1:160), Z (1:220) and T Scale (1:450).
